Bad PowerPoint

This is an example of a terrible PowerPoint presentation:
http://www.cs.trinity.edu/~ntrevino/bad/bad_files/frame.htm
Of all the other presentations in class I most enjoyed Mary's because of her slide disorder and creativity, Paul's due to his overwhelming ability to distract the viewer and the simple yet effective all white presentation given by Juan, which was very amusing.
These best demonstrated what shouldn't be done in a PowerPoint, what should be included is:
  • Title slides and slide titles are important
    • They convey the general point of you presentation
  • Coordinating font and color styles
    • Font should be the appropriate size, not too large or small
    • Colors should be appropriate and contrasting to enable easy reading
  • Spelling and grammar should be correct
  • Appropriate pictures and graphics
    • Too many graphics can be distracting
    • Too few and the presentation is boring
    • All should be cited correctly
    • Simple and relevant so as to add to the effectiveness of the presentation
  • Animations and sounds should be simple and subtle
    • Loud noises or effects can take away from the information
    • Animations can make your presentation look unprofessional
  • Bibliography should be included
    • Cite all your sources (even pictures and videos) to ensure the legality of your presentation

I liked how clear and concise your presentation was. I also especially enjoyed the little jokes thrown in, such as the price of tea in China and the Far Side comic strip!

Great job making your presentation entertaining- loved the sarcasm! I also liked how you reversed the information by giving good examples and saying this is what NOT to do if you want to give a bad presentation.

your information was organized and precise. The way you said that grammar is not important was priceless-unlike the tea in China. The design tips about not being loud with your slides was fun.
